Latitude 45 Staff Bikepacking Part One

(This is the first of a two-part series detailing a recent bikepacking trip taken by Latitude 45 employees.)

Seven Latitude 45 Bicycles and Fitness staff members enjoyed great weather and good times on an annual, two-night/three-day bikepacking trip that departed from the shop on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and returned Friday, Oct. 11.

This year’s adventure took staffers on a 130-mile clockwise loop that heavily utilized Northern Michigan’s stellar trails. Amid sunny skies and mild temperatures, the group headed north out of Petoskey along the Little Traverse Wheelway and the North Western State Trail. After a brief stop for supplies, they continued northeast toward Black Lake, where they spent their first night in the gorgeous Black Lake State Forest Campground.

Distance on the first day totaled just over 60 miles, leaving an additional 70 miles for the second and final day. Day two brought more beautiful weather and the seven bikepackers headed toward their next destination – a cabin several miles east of Indian River. Several games of Euchre were played, stories were shared, and the warmth of a wood stove was appreciated.

The third day of the trip took the group through Indian River, Alanson, and back to Petoskey. They arrived safe and sound, just as skies started to cloud. They’d perfectly timed their sojourn to encompass what has turned out to be some of the finest autumn weather of the year.

We’ve included a batch of images that illustrate some highlights of the 2019 Latitude 45 Staff Bikepacking Trip. Enjoy!
